My charcoal and ink drawings owe much to the process of how they are made. Far from that of the action painters of the 1950’s, mine is a very slow process of mark making, one in which I often rotate the drawing, as I add layer upon layer of freely drawn lines. No drawing starts with a specific idea, but is developed intuitively as I watch, look and respond to what I see. Drawings often sit for months waiting for the next layer of lines. As a result, they might best be called “non-action or slow-action drawings”. Whatever the case, I hope they provide an invitation to yet another way of looking at our place in the world.
