Guest Artist @ Birdsong Studio, 5 Sixth Avenue, Betterton, MD 21610
Joy's fun "infinity" bracelets and necklaces are inspired by the colors and textures of combinations of glass, shell, crystal, porcelain and silver plated tube beads and charms. These are strung using a strong .8 mm elastic cord. Joy's wearable art is easy to wear, no clasps to struggle with. Stretch it on and it goes "round and round". Her popular bracelet/necklace can be triple wrapped as a bracelet or simply worn as a necklace. Earrings and kids jewelry are also available.
Photography
Guest Artist @ Maryland Heritage Properties, 306 Cannon Street, Chestertown, MD 21620
I attempt to create an image that will make the viewer feel something. It is very difficult in this day and age, with everyone making photographs with their cell phones and ipads, to set yourself apart from the masses and make a statement. I try to create an image that is more than a tourist snapshot. I have studied these principals with some of the very best in the photographic community today and hopefully I am able to communicate with those experiencing my photography.

I have been a weaver for more than 15 years. I am interested in a variety of weave structures and techniques. Most of my work is one of a kind. There are some pieces that I repeat but I try to tweak them so that none are exactly alike. In addition to exhibiting at RiverArts, I am a member of Delaware by Hand and exhibit at the Biggs a Museum in Dover. This year I will also be participating in a show at the Lear’s Historical Society.

I draw and paint in graphite, Prismacolor pencil, acrylic, and oil. I am inspired by the overt beauty found in the world along with the collateral, or unintended, beauty life reveals to us when we’re bold enough to look. Persistent subjects and themes in my work are birch trees, oysters, Canada geese, and more recently, capturing the strength and beauty of our differences in a climate of deep racial, political, and moral divide.

Art should touch the viewer as much or even more than the artist. I love color, form and line. I want to use those elements to capture a mood and lighting. I prefer to mix architectural and natural elements into my images. There is a Navajo prayer that affirms a desire to "walk in beauty" that I hold dear. I have produced murals, decorative and faux images, impressionistic and abstract images. My preference for oils and pastels stems from a love of the rich color each has.

I have been creating metal art for the last 13 years as a fulltime endeavor. I jumped off not knowing if I would have enough ideas. Little did I know that I will run out of time before I run out of ideas! Nature is a huge inspiration coupled with the continued question of asking myself, What If? My current focus has been smaller sculpture work in stainless steel.

Penny McCrea, a plein Air Artist, lives on the Chester River just 1 mile upstream from Chestertown. She has a new studio that has plenty of light and a wonderful water view. From a distance, her art appears realistic but on closer examination, the paintings convey an impressionistic quality. Recently, Penny has been painting on Maryland’s Eastern Shore where she is particularly sensitive to the intrinsic beauty of farms, fields, big skies, tidewater marshes and saltwater streams.

Martha Pileggi has been exhibiting her artwork on the Delmarva Peninsula since 1985 and has worked in many mediums during that time. Martha switched to oils several years ago, and although she still practices in watercolors, her exhibition work is now totally oils. The use of traditional high quality oils with a minimum of mediums makes her painting experience efficient, enjoyable and archival.
Pastels
119 High St., Chestertown, MD 21620
For many years I have used pastel's beautiful pigments to depict the farms and rivers of Maryland's Eastern Shore. The architecture of a working farmyard provides an endless source of inspiration while my paintings of creeks and rivers near Chestertown deal with the complexity of nature in the interplay of light, water, and tangled grasses. Most recently, painting trips to Maine have provided a new challenge--portraying the dynamic interaction of waves and rocks on its rugged coastline.

Coming back to drawing and painting after sixty years, I am enjoying experimenting with subjects and mediums. From taking photos, to deciding on what to capture from them, and to discovering how to convey what is there; the entire process never stops widening and having its own fascination for me.

My approach to painting is intuitive. I make a mark and I follow its lead, paying careful attention to stopping points along the way to identify the finishing point. This does not change. My abstract work over the last year however has developed a structural element loosely based on a grid. I have also developed a plein air practice. How and if these will interact and inform each other remains to be seen. Come see the work. It articulates itself better than I can.

I enjoy doing detailed work, so I am drawn to making small works of art from silver - earrings, pendants, chains, and bracelets. From designing the piece, cutting the silver, forming, and soldering to finishing and polishing, the process requires patient handwork. I also make handbuilt pottery, often small boxes which complement the jewelry.

We all hail from places. We eventually leave home and wander, across the street or across the country. We become attracted to places as images, memories and feelings. Photography can represent real images and hopefully real feelings from those places. I am a peripatetic photographer, so I hope to share images that are points of interest and beauty seen in places while I wander in the world.

To me, photography is an adrenaline rush. I pursue the nuances and wonders of living creatures and landscapes, whether my image is a coincidence or a moment I waited hours to capture. Birds, animals, flowers, weather, and water beckon. My primary desire is to link humans to nature’s intimacy, reflected in God's palette.

When I retired, I wanted to open a yarn shop to share my love of knitting. What I really wanted to do was knit and teach the love of knitting. With the help of world class knitting instructors, I learned not only how to make my garments handmade rather than homemade, but also how to teach others to do the same. I have taught in Maryland and Maine for 20 years. In my NEW studio you will see beautiful designer garments made with the best yarns in beautiful colors and color combinations.
